Mothers Instinct

Mothers Instinct pleases with hearty and classic dishes with a few modern twists.

The café is led by passionate owners - husband and wife team, Themi Milikouros (head chef) and Nicole Saade (front of house) who have an impressive amount of experience in Melbourne’s hospitality scene. We adored their zest and enthusiasm for ensuring a complete and enjoyable dining experience at Mothers Instinct. Every detail has been considered - from the slightly larger tables to ensure sufficient space and comfort to the provision of healthier options (that mum would approve of).

The menu is seasonally inspired and has the ability to suit most. The breakfast menu rekindles comforting childhood memories while the brunch and lunch menus bring more contemporary touches.
As expected from any good Melbourne cafe, the coffee here is excellent. Our coffees were well made, with the slight sweetness of the frothed milk cutting through the residual brightness from the foundation espresso which boasted notes of hazelnut and dark chocolate).  Each came with an intricate rosetta in the milk foam.
From the sea - grilled atlantic salmon on quinoa and lentil salad with a poached egg

The grilled salmon was perfectly cooked while the eggs were expertly poached. A memorable dish combining flawless texture with equally superlative flavours.
Chef’s favourite - housemade parsley potato gnocchi tossed through a beef and red wine ragu finished with grated pecorino

The rustic dish of parsley potato gnocchi and ragu was highlighted by the light gnocchi which captivated with its “melt in your mouth" texture. We loved the flavoursome beef and red wine ragu which was rich, hearty and full of flavour.
Mothers Instinct is a weekend brunch haven, drawing in the crowds week in week out with excellent food, fantastic coffee and cheerful wait staff. Rest assured your favourites will stay the same but as Themi works with the seasons, ingredients can change frequently, so you will always find something new each time you visit.
